• If your not putting videos on your childcare center website, why not?   Keep your videos short, peoples attention span is not long.  Think of the possibilities for video, its endless and helpful to your parents and expecting parents.   Here is a good first video out.  Put up a very short video of your newest equipment, use one of your teachers to demonstrate the equipment.  The video helps in many ways:

  • As a followup to our blog Check Out This Video, I wanted to pass along videos you could create for your daycare.

Videos and pictures can telll a story about the activities that go on at your daycare.  All you need to make a video is a phone or handheld video camera like the flip.  Were not after oscars here.  We are here to show what goes on in a child day.  This can be done by without showing any children:

  • If a daycare owner new to the internet and using it for their center, asks us what kinds of things they can do, one of the things we tell them to do is to post on twitter, and to use it regularly. Twitter if you don't really get it, is a place where anyone can sign up and get an account. You can post a short message or status of 140 characters (ie 140 letters, numbers, spaces, etc). Anyone can see these, anyone can search for them. They're a great way to do a number of things for your daycare, from informational, to customer service.

  • We're rebooting the OrcaPack newsletter so it's time to get on board. Our newsletter will contain a number of things that might interest you, whether you're a current customer of an OrcaPack product like oDaycare, or whether you're thinking about it, or even if you're just interested in industry news and opinion.

  • What types of phone calls do you recieve in a normal week?

Next week make a log of all the calls you and your employees recieve at the childcare center.  You may be surprised by the results.

    Keep track of:

  • When we started working with the Learning Zone (Childcare Centers with locations in Weston, MA, Watertown, MA and now opened in 2009 Belmont, MA and Waltham, MA), their direct mail and telephone directory advertising channels were no longer attracting enough new parents

The Learning Zone needed more parents and expecting parents to arrange tours of the Learning Zone facilities. We need to fill vacant spaces and expand the waiting list of expecting parents. Before the website the Learning Zone had 2 - 4 month waiting list for newborns (with spots being available some months) and open spots in most of the other rooms for 1 - 5 year olds at both locations.

  • It didn't take long, but our first oDaycare customer is looking to expand.  The website is only a part of the puzzle.  But the ability for parents to keep up to date with daycare happenings is fundemental.

Sonia owner of FirstStep said, "Since the beginning OrcaPack has been all about what i need from a website to be successful.  I needed a calendar I could update and parents could download, they took care of it.  They even took the calendar further parents have there calendars automatically updated. Parents never stop mentioning how nice the site looks and how thorough it is.  The site tries to answer all the questions a parent may have."

  • The website has been a big hit with the parents and the First Step Director. First Steps is a brand new center. Having the ability to update content, calendars and pictures has been a great benefit.  The site has been live now since the beginning of June.  The site has attracted many tours and staffing inquiries.
